Reclamation projects, like shrub transplanting, are one of the tools CSR, Inc. uses to restore natural gas fields/well sites in Wyoming.
Goals of shrub transplanting as a restoration tool:
- Restore ecosystem function and biodiversity (plant and soil interactions)
- Restore nutrient cycling
- Accelerate reclamation
- Meet plant diversity and density requirements
The “Why” of shrub transplanting:
- Facilitates growth and recolonization of native communities
- Re-establish heterogeneous distribution of soils nutrients, microbial biomass and soil biota
- Establishes a “Mother plant” for seed dispersal in future years
- Soil microorganisms and other flora are relocated with the shrub, aiding in the reclamation process
